Effects of orbital forcing, greenhouse gases and ice sheets on Saharan greening in past and future multi-millennia

چکیده
Abstract. Climate archives reveal alternating arid and humid conditions in North Africa during the last several million years. Most likely dry phases resembled current hyper-arid landscapes, whereas wet known as African periods (AHPs) sustained much more surface water greater vegetated areas that “greened” large parts of Sahara region. Previous analyses sediment cores from Mediterranean Sea showed five AHPs differed strength, duration rate change. To understand causes such differences we perform transient simulations past 190 000 years with Earth system model intermediate complexity CLIMBER-2. We analyse amplitude change modelled AHP responses to changes orbital parameters, greenhouse gases (GHGs) ice sheets. In agreement estimates sapropels, find predicts a threshold forcing for greening occurrence AHPs. Maximum rates simulated vegetation extent at onset termination correlate strongly forcing. As suggested by available data Holocene AHP, usually happens faster than termination. A factor separation analysis confirms dominant role driving precipitation Forcing due GHGs sheets is only secondary importance, small contribution synergies Via detect varies GHG levels. explore implication our finding palaeoclimate might occur greenhouse-gas-induced warmer climate, extend into future. For next 100 variations will be smaller millennia, insolation late Quaternary not crossed. However, higher concentrations predicted drops considerably. Thereby, upcoming millennia appears crucially depend on future GHGs.

On the effect of orbital forcing on mid-Pliocene climate, vegetation and ice sheets
We present results from modelling of the midPliocene warm period (3.3–3 million years ago) using the Earth system model of intermediate complexity CLIMBER2 analysing the effect of changes in boundary conditions as well as of orbital forcing on climate. First we performed equilibrium experiments following the PlioMIP (Pliocene Model Intercomparison Project) protocol with a CO2 concentration of 4...
متن کاملon translation of politeness strategies in dialogues involving female characters in translations and retranslations of novels translated before and after the islamic revolution of iran and their effects on the image of women: a polysystem theory approach
abstract reception environment has considerable effects on accepting a translation. as the expectations of a target culture and its values and needs change throughout history, its criteria for accepting a translation or rejecting it will change accordingly (gentzler, 2001). the expectations of iran, as the reception environment in the present study, have changed after the islamic revolution. i...
the effects of planning on accuracy and complexity of iranian efl students’ written narrative task performance
this study compared the different effects of form-focused guided planning vs. meaning-focused guided planning on iranian pre-intermediate students’ task performance. the study lasted for three weeks and concentrated on eight english structures. forty five pre-intermediate iranian students were randomly assigned to three groups of guided planning focus-on-form group (gpfg), guided planning focus...

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
